Dr George BEIKO

Dr. Beiko is a medical graduate of Oxford U and completed ophthalmology specialty training at Queens U in Canada.   After residency, he worked for one year at the St. John Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem.   He is currently a cataract, anterior segment and refractive surgeon practicing in Canada.   Research interests include development of advanced cataract techniques and new intraocular implants; investigating multifocal, accommodating and aspheric IOLs.   He is a founding member of the International Society for Intraocular Lens Safety.
Dr. Beiko is an Associate Clinical Professor at McMaster U and a Lecturer at the U of Toronto.
Dr. Beiko has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and authored 13 book chapters. He has given over 700 scientific presentations at meetings throughout the world.   He has been awarded 4 best papers of session at the ASCRS annual meeting, Winning Video in Cataract Implant Surgery in the ASCRS Film Festival, 5 video awards in team competitions, Best Poster Award at AAO, Best Paper of Session (Cataract) at APAO-AAO Joint Meeting and the Best Original Paper in Cataract Surgery at AAO.   He has been named to more than 50 visiting professor/guest lectureships. He is on the review panel or editorial board of over 30 ophthalmology journals.   His honours include being elected to membership in the International Intraocular Implant Club, being named one of the “Premier Surgeons” of North America (which numbers 250 surgeons) and being made an Officer of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem, by Her Majesty The Queen of England.  He is the past Canadian Hospitaler for the St. John’s Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem.  Recently, he was honoured on 3 occasions with the Gold Medal by the Indian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, an Achievement award and a Senior Achievement award by the AAO, an Achievement Award by the APAO, the Presidential Award of the International Society of Refractive Surgery and the Boberg-Ans Award of the Danish Ophthalmological Society.
